Elissa Beckham interviews Madyline on her perspective!!!!
When did you get the trailer?
We first got a horse trailer in 2018 when we had four horses.
What did the horse trailer look like when you first got it?
When we first got the horse trailer it was in pretty rough shape. The inside was all brown with wood walls, wood floor, brown metal roof, brown metal front compartment the outside of the trailer was also all brown as well. The horse trailer did have nice chrome panels in the front. The back door did have some damage where the metal had gotten torn up but overall the horse trailer was in sound condition and there were no dents or real flaws other than just being ugly and brown. And of course there was so much dirt and probably horse poop that we had to clean a lot before we could do any work painting.
How much did it cost to get the trailer?
We were able to get the horse trailer for $400 and we traded a three wheeler that my
mom that was too dangerous for us kids to ride.
When did you decide to start painting it?
In 2019 we began to paint the inside of the trailer all white. we wanted to do something fun with it like maybe camping trips or maybe a little store for the flea markets. But we weren’t really too sure what exactly we were going to do with our mobile trailer at that time.
When did you begin converting The horse trailer?
So we began converting the inside of the trailer in 2019. We had painted everything inside the horse trailer white. It wasn’t untill January 2021 we began to paint the outside of the trailer. We painted it all pink; two different shades one a bright pink and the other a light pink.
What inspired you to create a Barbie museum?
We were inspired to create a Barbie museum because we love to collect Barbies, we love to see other peoples Barbie Collections, we loved the idea of a pop-up museum. There’s several new pop-up museums trending and we thought how fun it would be to share our collection but also make it a Instagram photo friendly opportunity as well as just kind of engage the community and maybe give opportunities for birthday parties and events for kids.
How did you choose your paint colors?
Our paint colors we chose were of course based off the Barbie colors of the Barbie boxes themselves. We used the classic Barbie bright pink and the soft pink often found with Barbie. We used the brand Rustoleum https://spraypaint.rustoleum.com/ paint and primer in one can. Did you run into any mistakes while you were painting?
One of our original ideas with painting the outside of the trailer had some silver glitter bomb paint panels We wanted to try out Rustoluems glitter paint. https://spraypaint.rustoleum.com/products/glitter?ls=301814&lc=Silver However when we put the paint on the trailer it looked terrible so we ended up having to sand it all off and re-paint those entire panels.
How did you paint the inside?
We used a paint brush to paint everything inside the trailer bright white by Behr https://www.behr.com/consumer
Did you run into any problems along your way?
We didn’t really have any problems. I think the only problem we really ran into was when we used the glitter spray paint and it just didn’t look right so we ended up having to let that dry and then send it off.
Was it worth the struggle?
I think all of our hard work painting the inside and the outside of the trailer was definitely worth the struggle. It looks completely different and absolutely beautiful now.
What do you think about your Pop-up Museum?
I am super excited about our pop-up museum. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun to just interact with people who like Barbies but also just people who want to have a good time experiencing something fun.
Do you think that people will be drawn to it? I think people will be drawn to my pop-up museum because it’s so cute and bright that when people see it and it looks eye-catching and they want to go see what that’s all about.
If you could change anything that you did would you?
I would say that I would probably avoid using the glitter spray because it definitely was a lot harder work to remove the glitter spray than it was to put it on.
One of the things I would do differently would be when I painted the inside of the trailer on the ceiling. I would probably not paint it again when it was hot out because the metal got really hot in the sun
You learned how to put vinyl logos on your trailer how did that go what did you think about it?
At first I would question why we were going to put the logo on ourselves but then I learned about it being expensive and it being a job that somebody else could do that I would have to pay. So I took it as a learning opportunity to be able to cut my own vinyl logo and be able to add it on my trailer myself. We did run into a problem when we did the back logo and ended up having to remove it . We then recut the vinyl and put it back on. I think it was fun to put the vinyl on. It was kind of like doing giant oversize stickers that you had to be really careful with.
What did you think about putting the vinyl logos on your trailer? At first I was wondering why my mom want it what did you think about putting the vinyl letters on your final logo on your trailer
